Kirsty Wither : A Layered View
"I have a need to engage with things that are uplifting and energising."
Kirsty Wither paints brightly coloured and textured still lifes, figures and landscapes. Her paintings are as much about the surface quality as the subject matter, applying vibrant layers of oil paint to achieve the desired outcome.
"I have a strong belief that colour can have a profound effect on our demeanour and well-being and I have always worked in oil, the most vibrant and rich of mediums. In this exhibition, alongside the choices of colour, decisions made in the studio address tension in the compositions - for example, blooms or leaves look as though they are flying away, or even barely clinging on. There are new and unexpected colour combinations where bold punchy colours are held in check by swathes of neutral areas."- Kirsty Wither, 2024
