Overview
Astrid Trügg (b.1972) is a Dutch artist based in East Lothian. Her still lifes explore texture, light and colour and are inspired by the shape, architecture and history of the objects she paints. Astrid Trügg was born in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 1972 and in 1991 she graduated from the Utrecht School of Art with a degree in Painting. Inspired by Edinburgh and the Scottish coastline Astrid moved to Scotland in 2003 where she continued her art studies and successfully completed a postgraduate painting course at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh. In 2010 she moved back to the Netherlands and currently works from both her studio in Leith, Edinburgh and Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Her mixed media works often contain fragments of maps or newspaper cuttings, which combined with paintings of gathered antiques and object, add a sense of the place to her nostalgic and topical still lifes. She has exhibited regularly in group exhibitions in Scotland and the Netherlands and her first solo exhibition with the Open Eye Gallery was in 2013.
