Simon Laurie RSW RGI: New Works

New works by Glasgow based artist Simon Laurie map a new focus within his practice whilst maintaining the character of his signature still life works.

“These works have moved to pure abstraction, an opportunity for me to be free of the old disciplines and instead engage with the pure joy of painting shapes and forms. The work has an instant impact, direct, harmonious and bold. However on closer inspection the surfaces have their own fascination, paint applied, stripped back, reapplied and the end product being rich and satisfying.

I have always wanted my work to speak for itself, on one hand to be clear and concise and on the other to convey mystery and intrigue to the viewer within the many layered surfaces.” Simon Laurie April 2016

Simon Laurie was born in Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1982 to 1988. Laurie’s paintings have received great acclaim throughout his career and in recent years he has been awarded the PAI Diplomates Award and the RSW Sir William Gillies Award in 2012.
